ClassLens

Our Mission

We believe teachers should spend their time teaching, not grading. ClassLens automates the tedious parts of grading while keeping teachers in full control of every grade and every comment that reaches their students.

Grading 150 papers should not take an entire weekend. Our goal is to give teachers back their evenings and weekends, without sacrificing the quality of feedback students receive.

How It Works

A straightforward five-step pipeline from assignment to graded feedback. The teacher stays in control at every step.

Step 1

Connect Google Classroom

Sign in with your Google Workspace for Education account. Select the course and assignment you want to grade.

Step 2

Configure Your Preferences

Upload your rubric or use built-in criteria. Set strictness, comment style, feedback length, late work policies, and more.

Step 3

AI Grades with Your Rubric

The AI evaluates each student submission against your rubric criteria, generating a grade and personalized feedback.

Step 4

Review

Grades route to one of two teacher-controlled review modes. In Draft Only mode, grades appear as drafts inside Google Classroom for review. In Grade & Review mode, grades route to the in-app Batch Review Dashboard. In both modes, you review every grade and comment, and adjust anything that needs a human touch.

Step 5

Return to Students

When you are satisfied, release grades to students — either from inside Google Classroom (Draft Only mode) or with a batch release from the Batch Review Dashboard (Grade & Review mode).

Our Approach to Student Privacy

Student privacy is built into the architecture of ClassLens, not bolted on after the fact. We designed the system so that student data passes through our servers only during active grading and is never stored permanently.

No Student Data Stored on Our Servers

Student submissions are downloaded, graded, and written back to Google Classroom, then discarded from server memory. We never store student work, names, emails, grades, or feedback on our own servers. Grades and comments land in the teacher’s own Google Classroom (and, when the teacher requests Sheets export, in a teacher-owned Google Sheet).

Transient Processing Only

Student data exists in our system only for the duration of a grading job. Redis cache entries are explicitly deleted after grading completes, with a maximum time-to-live as a safety net.

Teacher-Initiated Actions Only

Nothing happens without the teacher clicking a button. No background scanning, no automatic processing, no data collection outside of an active grading request.

We operate as a "school official" under FERPA when authorized by the school or district. We require institutional authorization before processing student data. For the complete details of our data practices, please read our Privacy Policy.

Built by Educators, for Educators

ClassLens was designed by a teacher who understands the pain of grading 150+ papers every week. Late nights marking essays, the struggle to provide meaningful feedback on every paper when you have five periods and 30 students in each one.

The tool is built around one principle: the teacher stays in control. AI handles the repetitive evaluation work. You make the final call on every grade. Your rubric, your standards, your voice in the feedback. The AI is your assistant, not your replacement.
